Do you want to hear about amazing and interesting things going on across Dudley borough?
Do you have an idea, story or experience to share?
Or have you been asked to give a short presentation and would welcome a practice and some supportive feedback?
Then get involved in a Lightning Talk!
What are CoLab Lightning Talks?
Short (1 hour) events at which between two and four people give short presentations and there is an opportunity to discuss them. We encourage speakers to keep to one of our broad themes, which are collaboration, co-production and social innovation. That can embrace any number of things which people, groups and organisations in the borough get up to!
Each talk is a maximum of 10 minutes long. We hope the events will be fun for both the speakers and the audience.
Why might you want to give a Lightning Talk?
Maybe you’ve never given a talk before, and you’d like to start small. For a Lightning Talk, you don’t need to make slides, and if you do decide to make slides, we’re limiting them to a maximum of 5.
Maybe you’re nervous and would welcome some encouragement. It’s a lot easier to plan and deliver a five minute talk than it is to deliver a long talk. And your CoLab peers can help you to hone your message and delivery by telling you what they really liked about your talk.
Maybe you don’t have much to say. Maybe you just want to ask a question, or invite people to help you with your project, or tell a story from experience. These things are all interesting and worth talking about, and CoLab Lightning Talk events offer an opportunity for this.
If you wish your talk can be recorded and shared online, either as a video, or audio put to your slides. That way you can reach even more people with whatever it is you are passionate about.
Why might you come to a CoLab Lightning Talk event?
- To keep in touch with what’s going on in the borough without spending half a day at an event.
- To meet new people, or engage in people’s work.
- To be inspired.
- To learn something new.
- To give support and encouragement to others.
