Dudley People’s School for Climate Justice

An assemblage of community-led projects

In Dudley our most vulnerable communities are at high risk from climate change. We also have natural habitats listed as being at high risk and very high risk from climate change.

Dudley People’s School for Climate Justice will make it easier for hundreds of people across Dudley borough to share their ideas, skills and knowledge. Together we will cultivate collective resilience through climate action. We will also work to reimagine the structures and systems which created the climate crisis and inequalities.

Projects starting in spring 2024 will see neighbours, artists, learners, designers, tea makers, tinkerers, researchers, crafters, gardeners, quiet activists and more learning together, connecting with nature and taking climate action. Artists from Workshop 24, based in Amblecote, will be inviting people to explore water and climate in Dudley. Ekho Collective CIC, based at Hawbush Community Gardens in Brierley Hill are leading activity around land connection. Stories of Place, led by architect Holly Doron, encourages nature inspired observation, sensing and connection activities in Dudley town centre. Dudley CVS will support local people to become School Stewards, creating over 40 more learning journeys around many and varied topics over three years.

A programme of free exhibitions, performances, film screenings and seasonal celebrations, and a School Library tailored to local learning enquiries will enhance learning opportunities and inspire even more local people to take part.

Seeking School Stewards to support Climate Changemakers

We are inviting 15 people to become Stewards in 2024

If you enjoy bringing people together in your community, school or college, and want to take action which cares for people, planet and the future, we’d love to meet you.

Stewards will enhance the offerings through the School being made by local artists and designers. They will support local people of all ages and backgrounds to co-design their own learning journeys and collaborative climate action. These are voluntary roles, with training, resources and support provided.

We’re not particularly looking for people already active in the climate or environmental space. We’d simply love to meet people who:

  • are curious

  • see value in people learning from each other

  • would like to increase connection with nature and use nature’s guidebook to inform action

  • are concerned that that different communities feel the effects of the climate crisis differently

  • think it is important that everyone gets a chance to create, imagine and shape our futures.
