In relationship with place: Leasowes Nature Reserve, Halesowen

The Leasowes is a place in Dudley Borough that Lorna visits often. She says...

The eastern edge of the Leasowes Nature Reserve is about 15 minutes walk from my home and is such a special place. When you visit often you’re treated to great views of kingfishers and if you hang out at dusk you’ll hear and maybe spot tawny owls, and experience bats hunting around your head.

Spring brings the glorious scent of a carpet of wild garlic in the poplar grove, the appearance of ducklings on the many ponds and a rowdy polyphonic dawn chorus. In summer the streams and woodland offer respite from stifling heat.

As the seasons continue to turn a great viewpoint is from the bank which holds the out of use Dudley No 2 canal, looking east the trees put on an astonishing display of colour. And as leaves fall, views to the west open out, with Wychbury monument on the horizon.
